Daily Musings: I Could Use More Joy in my Life

Working on my weaving today.
Date: Tuesday 11/18/14 4:24 P.M. Frost damage is minimal, but winter is definitely on the way to the desert.

Mood: Troubled
Eats: My boyfriend wants to go to Rock's Place for pizza tonight. Fine by me.

Fitness: I should be working out right now.

Musing: A bit of bad financial news, but it hopefully is just a temporary setback.

Reading: Magic to the Bone

Fashion Update: Just finished the first 8 days of my 3 month fashion challenge.  See my fashion blog below for more details.

Fun Facts About Me: I love to thrift stores and bargain shopping.

Musings: The Odd-bod Bunch

Daily Musings – it has a Photo, a Mood, a Food, a Fitness Report, a Musing, a Read, a Fashion Update and a Fun Fact about me. What more could you need from the Internet? Don't forget to subscribe if you want to get updates.

Date: 11/06/14 8:52 A.M. There's a nip in the air but the sun is shining.

Mood: Motivated to get a lot done today.
Eats: Starting the Paleo diet again. I hope it goes better this time.

Fitness: Knife throwing.

Musing: I'm working on a poetry Nanowrimo as well as a novel. I'm getting frustrated with how inefficient I am at managing my time. I spent way too much time last night talking to a hypnosis client. He wanted a session but it was inconvenient for me, but it would have been quicker in hindsight to have just done the session. While I was chatting I got nothing else done. Hence I'm way behind on my writing goals.

Reading: The Accidental Genie.

Fashion Update:  I got a great book at the used bookstore yesterday called 200 Projects to Get You Into Fashion Design.  It is done in numbered challenges. So I have so many ideas to do now but not much time to do them in.

Fun Face About Me: I like bright colors. It is always my default. I can only do other colors if I make a conscience effort to do so.

I love knitting weird things. I got this at the used bookstore too.

Libraries Make Me Happy

Today I drove the 10 extra miles round trip to go to the big library. Usually I go to one of the branches, where they rarely have everything I need. Then I have to order books from the inter-library system, wait another week, and then go back to pick them up. I dropped off 14 books and came home with 24! If this keeps up I'll need to take a shopping cart to the library. Part of the problem is I'm getting books for 2 people. My boyfriend is a voracious reader but refuses to set foot in a library. So to sooth the savage beast, I bring home books for him too. He also reads about twice as fast as I do. And he's out of work, so he has a lot of hours to read. I feel I'm saving us money by going to the library. If he bought all those books, we'd be homeless.

My choice of books leans heavily to arts and crafts and biographies of famous artists. I was thrilled to find a book on Matisse.

Charles De Lint books

One of my goals is to read all the Charles De Lint books. It took me forever and a day to finish Moonheart, which had so many characters and plot lines I'm sure I missed the nuances.

Now I'm reading I'll Be Watching You which is about abusive men. It's depressing as hell. And it lacks the magical elements of his other books. He wrote it under an alias Samuel M Key. I'm about halfway done. It's going a lot faster than Moonheart so if I hang in there I'll finish it fairly quickly. So for New Year's I should reinact my goal to read 100 books in a year. Anyone else want to join me? Even though it's kinda cheating because it's still 2008 for a few more days, I'm going to make this number one.
So:
1. I'll Be Watching You

What are you reading?

Stop Reading and Go Do

Yesterday I was chatting to a person in the Etsy chatroom. And it became obvious that he's very enamored with new age self-help books. So he kept telling me, "You should go read this book and you should go read that book." I kept saying I already read that (most of them I read years ago). Finally I told him don't be a baby bird sitting in the nest all your life, go out and fly. He didn't understand what I meant at all. I meant that though reading can be a wonderful thing, it is no substitute for living your life. You come of an age where you need to switch roles and become the mentor and the teacher and the writer.
Case in point I asked him if he wanted to see my psycho telekinesis video where I'm doing fork bending. So he starts going on and on about Uri Geller and how he's a psychic who now works for the FBI. The other person in the room asked what we were talking about and he says, "She's talking about Uri Geller." And I said, "No, I'm talking about me and my fork bending video." Evidently I don't exist because I haven't written a book on it and I don't work for the FBI. Shrugs. I think we forget that authors are people too and while books are important, at some point we have to put them down and go apply the knowledge. Otherwise we become like the guy in the chatroom that has a booklist as long as his arm and no life experience.
